Why We Chose Engineered Bamboo for Our Wall Sculptures

Every House of Clermont wall sculpture begins with a material choice. For our dowel-based designs, we chose engineered bamboo for its solid feel and beautifully smooth surface.

Bamboo’s reputation as a renewable material was one of the reasons we explored it. But working with the dowels themselves helped us make our decision. Their solidity and smoothness stood out, making them a material we enjoy using to bring our designs to life.

Small details, a bigger picture

Our sculptures are built from individual cylindrical dowels. Each one becomes part of a larger composition, contributing to its shape, texture and depth.

When a design is made from repeated elements, those individual details matter. The smooth surface of the bamboo provides the starting point for our painted finishes, while the cylindrical forms give the artwork its distinctive character.

Colour meets dimension

Colour is central to what we do. From soft beige and brown tones to bold blues, oranges and teals, each palette creates a different mood.

Yet our sculptures are about more than colour alone. The dowels bring dimension to the design. From across the room, you see the complete composition. Move closer or view it from an angle, and the individual forms become more apparent.

That relationship between colour and structure is what we love: artwork with an overall presence, and details worth looking at more closely.

Handmade in the UK, made for your space

Every sculpture is handmade to order in the UK. Engineered bamboo is part of that story, chosen for the qualities we value when making each piece.

Whether you’re drawn to a quieter neutral design or something more expressive, our aim is the same: to create wall art that brings depth, colour and character to your space.
